Bees Nest Removal

There are two types of bees in the UK – honeybees and bumblebees. Both tend to be more active in the spring and summer, and then hibernate in the winter. While bees may be a nuisance, they are suffering from serious population decline. Pestserve would like to emphasize that bee control methods often involve removal as opposed to the dispatching of the hive or nest. This is typically only done for health and safety reasons – for example, if you or a family member has a known allergy to bee stings.

Honeybees

Honeybees tend to be about 10mm to 15mm long. They are often are found near flowers, as they rely on the blooms to produce honey. These are the bees that are responsible for pollinating flowers and crops. In recent years, honeybees have been suffering from Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD), which has caused a significant amount of concern among conservationists and biologists alike.

Bumblebees

Bumblebees tend to be between 10mm and 20mm long and have black and yellow stripes on their bodies. They have grey or white tails near their stingers. Bumblebees make nests in a variety of places. They may choose bird boxes, compost heaps, flower pots or gutters. They are also far less likely to sting you than wasps or honeybees are, despite the fact that males frequently swarm around the nest. They tend to keep to themselves unless they are provoked or their nest is disturbed. In the autumn the old queen, the male bees and the workers will all die off and the nest will decay. The new queens will hibernate by burrowing underground and waiting for the warmer weather to arrive.

Pestserve approach to bee control

Please be aware that we only provide bee removal services if the bees are causing you distress. We try to re-home the bees instead of destroying them. In most instances, we can arrange for a local bee keeper to remove the hive from your property. Your home or business will then be free of bees without contributing to the problem of colony collapse. In extreme circumstances, if the site of the hive is hazardous and removal is not possible, it may be destroyed. This will always be considered as a last resort only.
